It is that time of year again! The catalog of classes has now been published, and we can finally reveal what we will be teaching at the Academy of Appliqué in Williamsburg, Virginia in 2023. Check out that catalog of wonderful offerings, and you will have a difficult time deciding what classes to enjoy: there are so many amazing instructors with a wide variety of techniques and skills presented. Woodland Reverie at the Academy 2022 from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

As always, we came home from the Academy of Appliqué exhausted and excited, ready to start new projects and jazzed by the inspiration of the many people we met and stitched with during the week. Our first session was these two blocks from our Woodland Reverie series: Butterfly and Trillium and Cascading Creek. The class was roughly divided in half, so we got to watch both blocks coming to life.

Velvet, Anyone? from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Ahh, velvet . . . even the name has a warm, fuzzy feeling. As textures go, it is hard to beat, with its softness and shiny nap catching the light, making the color sing. Since we love to mix fibers and textures in our work, we were thrilled to discover this new product—a hand-dyed stretch velvet, by The Velvet Hook. A Prairie Posting from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Last week, Teri and I (Kara) experienced Baltimore on the Prairie for the first time, and we were hooked. From the moment we walked in the door of Lied Lodge, we knew that it was going to be a great week.

We taught two classes, Alsatian Urn and Village Wanderings–Shops. Both classes were filled with the best students, and we had a wonderful time full of stitching and laughter—what more could you ask for?! Here are a few pics from our fun-filled week.

Academy 2022 Offerings —Part 1 from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

It is hard to believe that it is that wonderful time of year when the Academy of Appliqué class catalog is ready to view, and are we excited about our classes! We will be teaching two classes next year, and this week and next, we will highlight the projects so that you can see more details of each. The first session will be two new Woodland Reverie blocks. You will be able to choose which block to work on in class or both. All the skills for each block will be taught, and some of them will overlap.

Quaranstitching: West of the Atlantic (With a Mask Tutorial!) from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Last week, Kara shared what she's been working on east of the Atlantic during our Stay at Home time, both stitching and otherwise. Today, it is my turn to share the "quaranstitching" projects under my needles. At this point, I have several things going at once, so depending on how energetic I'm feeling, I can choose to be creative, or just stitch without much thought—enjoying the sheer process of the needle, thread, and fabric coming together.

Wonderful Williamsburg from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Last week, we enjoyed a fantastic time in Williamsburg, Virginia. We spent the first half of the day on Sunday visiting the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton before we headed back to Kingsmill Resort to set up our classroom for the Academy of Appliqué. More will follow from the Quilt Festival in the near future. Please enjoy some of the highlights of the classes we taught last week.

Still On the Road from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

We have just finished teaching the first of three classes on the road, and what a class it was! Our first Woodland Reverie class was a smashing success, with 12 wonderful ladies taking part. Round two starts tomorrow, with 23 members of the Colonial Piecemakers Guild, and we are excited to share our Marcia's Flowers pattern with them. We are shifting gears from the woodlands to flowers and working diligently to prepare for the next stitching adventure, so we will leave you with a picture of our happy students.

Butterfly Wings and Trilliums from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

Yesterday, on our social media pages (Instagram and Facebook), I (Teri) posted this flower center with the caption "Guess the flower!" We didn't get a lot of guesses, but that wasn't too surprising to me. When we decided to add this particular flower to our new Woodland Reverie quilt designs, I confess that I had to do some research, as it is a flower I don't know very well. But Google is a wonderful resource, and I was able to find some excellent photos to use as models for my flower.
